Oral Evaluation and Tongue Tie Consultation

At this evaluation Dr. Bethany will take a close look at your baby's oral anatomy and health, checking for any tongue, lip, or cheek ties that might be causing a restriction. Her assessment methods are conservative and she will only prescribe a frenectomy when needed.

The consultation is an opportunity to ask questions and speak openly about your concerns.

If you're ready to move forward, and no additional pre-frenectomy therapy is recommended and the schedule allows, we can even perform a frenectomy on the same day as your consultation

Before your appointment, we'll ask you to fill out a thorough questionnaire. This will give you the chance to share what brought you in, how feedings are going, your baby’s medical history, and any symptoms you've noticed.

Dr. Bethany will also communicate with your other providers so they can share their evaluations.

Frenectomy Procedure

The frenectomy is performed using a LightScalpel CO2 laser and we ensure the area is numb with a safe numbing gel beforehand to minimize any discomfort for the baby.

The procedure takes only a few seconds.

While Dr. Bethany performs the release, parents can wait comfortably in our private consultation room.

The average procedure takes less than a minute and your baby is brought right back to you.

Because the laser method is so gentle, babies can feed at the breast or bottle immediately afterwards.

  1. CAN A FRENECTOMY PROCEDURE BE DONE ON THE SAME DAY AS THE CONSULTATION?
If Dr. Bethany determines that a restriction is present and there are no other factors that need to be addressed beforehand to ensure the best surgical and functional outcome, the procedure can be performed on the same day as the consultation. However, if families have many questions or need additional support before proceeding, we may recommend scheduling the procedure for a later date.

Dr. Bethany is committed to doing frenectomies the right way—not the rushed way. She takes the time to ensure that every procedure is performed with precision, care, and a thorough understanding of each baby's unique needs with having the right care plan and collaborative care team.

For a same-day procedure, it must be completed within the one-hour consultation window, as we are dedicated to staying on schedule to serve all families in our care. However, you will never be pressured to proceed immediately—our priority is ensuring you feel fully informed and confident in your decision.

If the procedure is scheduled for a later date, Dr. Bethany will always send an email outlining the care plan discussed, along with her detailed wound care guide. This allows you to review the information in advance and feel more prepared for what to expect at your frenectomy appointment.

  2. DOES DR. BETHANY RECOMMEND WOUND CARE STRETCHES AFTER A PROCEDURE?
Yes, Dr. Bethany provides hands-on guidance to ensure you and your child are set up for success with wound care stretches after the procedure. These stretches are essential for guiding proper healing and preventing reattachment.

Dr. Bethany emphasizes the quality of the stretches, not just their frequency. She will demonstrate different techniques and recommendations to help you perform them effectively. To ensure you feel confident, she will first perform a stretch on the family members responsible for doing them at home. You are welcome to record her demonstration on your child for reference. Then, a family member will glove up and practice the stretch alongside Dr. Bethany, ensuring you are applying the right technique and pressure for the best possible outcome.

Wound care stretches should be performed 3–4 times a day for the first two weeks to support proper healing. At the second follow-up appointment, Dr. Bethany will assess your child's healing and functional progress and provide personalized recommendations for the next steps.

COMMON QUESTIONS

COMMON FINANCIAL QUESTIONS

  1. Do you take insurance?
Dr. Bethany is an out-of-network provider, which means we are not contracted with any insurance plans.  What is great about this is that it gives us the flexibility to offer more time and the best treatment options based on your needs rather than insurance restrictions.

  2.  Do you provide any information for us to submit to our insurance?
YES!  We are happy to provide you a detailed superbill with the information needed to submit to your insurance. We make it very easy for you as we have filled out the dental insurance claim for you to submit, you just need to add some personal information to it.

  3. What insurance reimbursement has families seen from your care?
While not every insurance carrier covers frenectomies, in our experience, families often get back 20-70% of our fees reimbursed (depending on their policy).

Our collaborating providers have reported that families are receiving more dental insurance reimbursements with Dr. Bethany from Tongue Ties with Love than other providers in and around Los Angeles.

Dr. Bethany’s office provides you with a detailed a superbill and a letter of support with an 11-page research paper for you to submit to your PPO insurance for reimbursement.
